Join Sydney Philharmonia Choirs' acclaimed Chamber Singers for a breezy night of entertainment as they flip through the pages of the Great American Songbook, crooning some of the finest vocal standards of the 20th century by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Richard Rodgers and Joe Garland; along with a few surprises.
Presented cabaret-style in the spectacularly intimate surrounds of Sydney Opera House's Utzon Room and at Parramatta's Riverside Theatre, In the Mood sees this acclaimed group of 32 virtuoso singers taking a rare break from motets and magnificats, to pay homage to the stylish tunes from 1930s and 40s USA, that seduced Hollywood and conquered Broadway.
Think Ain't Misbehavin', Autumn Leaves, I Got Rhythm, Blue Moon, Over the Rainbow and more, all presented in sophisticated upbeat arrangements, accompanied by a jazz trio comprising piano, bass and reeds.
More than just a concert, Conductor Brett Weymark will wrap the musical program in stories of Sydney between the wars: a city plunging between optimism and the challenges of the Depression. Don't miss it!
Two intimate shows only, 8pm Friday August 30, Sydney Opera House Utzon Room. 8pm Saturday August 31, Riverside Theatre, Parramatta. Conducted by Brett Weymark.
