The powerful, funny and inspiring production, What is the Matter with Mary Jane?, will take place at the Seymour Centre from tonight 4 to 8 August 2015. A one woman show, the production will explore the world of eating disorders telling the poignant personal story of the show's director, Sancia Robinson.

Co-written by Robinson and Wendy Harmer, What is the Matter with Mary Jane? has become a classic play text not only as a fine example of solo drama performance but as a deeply insightful tool for understanding the complex issues surrounding eating disorders.

A searingly honest piece, the show delves into mental illness and exposes the hopelessness felt when trapped within such a disorder. It will have the audience in fits of uncontrollable laughter and the next minute, sitting in compassionate silence.

The immensely talented Gabrielle Savrone will perform the painful reality of Robinson's 12-year rollercoaster ride of eating disorders.

Following the August 5 performance, there will be a Q&A session with Wendy Harmer and Sancia Robinson and on August 6, a panel discussion will be held with specialists from the University of Sydney and the Charles Perkins Centre discussing the complex issues raised in the play.
