As part of Riverside Theatre's SPOT ON! program running in the September school holidays, The Blue Grotto Project is a free activity running from tonight, 24 September to Friday 27 September, featuring an interactive video installation for kids with disabilities.
Throughout July and August, the Halinda School, the Rowland Hassall School, the Hills School and the Holroyd School from Western Sydney as well as Anson St School from Orange engaged in a series of five film and sound recording workshops facilitated by Beyond the Square, Riverside Theatre's creative arts program for people with disabilities. The result was five short videos created by the students in each school and then exhibited inside a purpose built inflatable Blue Grotto space, part of the free activity highlights at Riverside Theatre's Spot On! Children's Festival. Beyond the Square's Creative Director, Alison Richardson says of the project, "The project aims to engage school aged students with disabilities in the creative process and give them the chance to work alongside professional video and sound artists to create their own short video & then have it publicly exhibited in a mainstream arts event."Bookings: Riverside Box Office on 8839 3399 or www.riversideparramatta.com.au.
