Poetic and gently humorous, The Westlands comes to Riverside Theatres from Sunday, 17 to Thursday, 26 October as the second installment of Riverside's 2013 True West Theatre Season.

The Westlands tells the stories of the mythical suburb through the voices of its residents. Under the direction of Michael Pigott, The Westlands paints an impressionistic picture of the loves and passions, the nightmares and the dreams, the differences and aspirations, of people living in a place that constantly shifts identity with the passing of time and the arrival of new residents.

Starring James Lugton, Tiriel Mora and Shane Porteous, each story is linked together by the Stranger who guides the way from dreamtime to the multicultural present.

The Sydney-based theatre director, producer and writer Michael Pigott has worked closely with the Darlinghurst Theatre, and as the Season Director/Mentor for RAW since 2006 and the ArtsLab program since 2008.

The Westlands writer, Dale Turner is a celebrated poet and dramatist working with a group of fully professional actors based in the Blue Mountains. His play for voices A Door Ajar was described by Australia's premier poet Les Murray as follows, "I was drawn into its world. In many ways it outdoes Milkwood".
