Red Line Productions Presents the World Premiere of DEGENERATE ART at Sydney's Old Fitz Theatre?

A twice-rejected art school applicant rises to political power through the use of charm, cunning and violence. From there, he declares merciless war on 'cultural disintegration', ordering an aesthetic purge of the entartete Künstler - the 'degenerate artists' - and their work.

As a result, between 1933 and 1945 one fifth of all artworks in Europe - valued at billions of dollars - are looted by, or have their sale coerced by, the Nazis.

Acclaimed actor, director and playwright Toby Schmitz returns to his stomping ground, the Old Fitz Theatre, with an incredible ensemble cast of Septimus Caton (This Much Is True), Guy Edmonds (The Moodys, House Husbands), Julian Garner (Killing Ground, Top Of The Lake), Anthony Gooley (Calamity Jane, Assassins), Henry Nixon (The Kettering Incident, Rake), Megan O'Connell (Cleverman, Home & Away) and Rupert Reid (Sunshine, The Village Bike) to breathe life into the story of what happens when a consummate performer - surrounded by yes men - takes it upon himself to shape the cultural future of a nation.

Toby Schmitz is a writer, director and actor.

His theatre acting credits include The Present, Hamlet, The Rover, The Wild Duck, Thyestes, Strange Interlude, Private Lives, Measure for Measure, Ruben Guthrie, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Travesties, The Importance of Being Earnest, Much Ado About Nothing, The School for Scandal and Nowra's Boyce Trilogy.

His plays include Capture The Flag, I Want To Sleep With Tom Stoppard and Chicks Will Dig You! for which he won the Patrick White Award.

His directing credits include Boy's Life, This Is How It Goes, Shakespearealism and Howie the Rookie.
