A muscular and thrilling celebration, where the strength and vigour of the music is matched by acrobatics and circus disciplines

SYDNEY 3 May to 12 May
MELBOURNE 13 & 14 May
BRISBANE 16 May

After a sell-out and Helpmann Award-winning collaboration in 2015, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and contemporary circus troupe Circa reunite for a fearless fusion of contemporary circus and baroque music.

Spanish Baroque will be created by Artistic Directors Paul Dyer and Yaron Lifschitz and they promise passion, power and virtuosity.

The musical core of the show is a feisty pasticcio created by Paul Dyer inspired by the Brandenburg's ARIA Award-winning CD Tapas, lots of percussion, guitar and theorbo, and lashings of violin bravado, with music by Albéniz, Merula, Murcia, Martinez and more.

"The music is going to be bold and it is going to be sensual," says Paul Dyer. "The audience will go away feeling like they've never, ever experienced anything like this."

"After the beauty and elegance of French Baroque, I wanted to elicit earthy, powerful flavours in Spanish Baroque," says Yaron Lifschitz.

"Earth, love, death, rebirth mixed together in passionate ode to our humanity. Rich colours, raw flesh and sublime baroque music will fuse together.

"I have asked our performers to channel the archetypes - the bull, the virgin, the upside down man - and put them into elemental contact and conflict inside a bull ring," adds Yaron.

"Sometimes soaring love will win, at other times loss and despair will triumph but ultimately it is a show made under the sign of blood - the rich red that runs hot through our veins and whose beating connects musicians, acrobats and audiences."
