Ninefold Returns To Pact Theatre, Erskineville This October With Its Acclaimed Wyrd: The Season Of The Witch.
Audiences are invited to witness this unmissable event; a story of malevolent ambition and uncanny horror performed with Ninefold's hallmark power and precision for a strictly limited season of only four shows.
Wyrd: The Season of The Witch received its debut season at PACT in June and is returning this Halloween with beguiling NEW material that will make it a must see for both fresh and familiar faced audiences. This is Shakespeare's Scottish play pulled apart and remade crisp, strange and contemporary. Wyrd sees a powerful warrior identified only as 'Our Lady' unleashed the malevolence of the Wyrd Ones upon the world in the hopes of satiating her burning ambition to be crowned. But all debts must be paid and Our Lady's triumphs quickly decompose into a nefarious nightmare of Lynchian horror. The devil truly is in the detail of this tightly choreographed performance. Featuring Shakespeare's original text cut from Macbeth, reordered and stitched back together with toe-tapping 50s pop songs, powerful choral speaking and high energy movement. Do not miss this return season of Wyrd: "you won't have seen another Shakespeare adaptation quite like it." (Jason Blake, Audrey Journal)
Wyrd brings together Ninefold's core creative team: the 'transcendent, compelling and powerful' Shy Magsalin as director, (The Tragedy of Antigone, Room, member of the International Suzuki Company of Toga); Liam O'Keefe (The Tragedy of Antigone) as lighting designer; production design by Victor Kalka; and an original score by Melanie Herbert (Room, member of Splinter Orchestra).
PACT Artistic Director, Katrina Douglas, says "Ninefold is one of the most exciting emerging companies in Sydney and their new work Wyrd is an intense, innovative and powerful performance. I'm looking forward to presenting its return season at PACT."
The cast is made up of the current members of the Ninefold ensemble: Aslam Abdus-samad (Tragedy of Antigone, Debris - LZA Theatre); Erica J Brennan (The Tragedy of Antigone); Victoria Greiner (Tragedy of Antigone); Matthew L Heys (Woyzeck - Pasvolsky Studio); Melissa Hume (Bluebeard - Lies, lies and Propaganda); Gideon Payten-Griffiths (Tragedy of Antigone); Shane Russon (Three Sisters - Sport for Jove); Tabitha Woo (A Westerner's Guide to the Opium Wars); Paul Musumeci (Hero/Companion), Stella Ye (The Cherry Orchard) and Jessica Saras (Best Before - The Bird Cartel).
