Merrigong Theatre Company Recognised with Wollongong City Centre Business Excellence Award

Merrigong Theatre Company has just received an Illawarra Business Award for business excellence within Wollongong City Centre. Now in its 23rd year, the awards are the region's most prestigious and anticipated annual business awards event. The award honours the most outstanding businesses in the region and provides an opportunity to celebrate the combined successes of the Illawarra business community.

Merrigong Theatre Company manages one of Australia's busiest, most dynamic regional venues - Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC) in Wollongong, about an hour south of Sydney. The company also manages the city's key civic and community venue, the Wollongong Town Hall.

The Wollongong City Business Excellence Award is awarded to a business within the Wollongong Central Business District who has displayed outstanding business achievements.

Merrigong Theatre Company presents a diverse annual season of theatre, dance and children's programming, including work sourced from Australia's finest performing arts companies, self-produced work, acclaimed international productions, and innovative contemporary work from new companies, as well as in 2017, the inaugural Spiegeltent Wollongong season.

Merrigong Theatre Company Artistic Director Simon Hinton said "This award is a great recognition of the work that all of our staff and board do. In a year when we introduced Wollongong to the wonders of the Spiegeltent it is a great reward for our risk-taking and collaboration".
