Luckiest Productions and One Eyed Man's GYPSY Announces Casting ImageMultiple award-winning producers Luckiest Productions and One Eyed Man Productions are thrilled to announce the cast for their highly anticipated production of Gypsy. With a toe-tapping, acclaimed score, Gypsy is heralded by many as the greatest musical ever created and will run from 18 May at the Hayes Theatre Co.

Previously announced cast members include three-time Sydney Theatre Award winner Blazey Best (Miracle City, Only Heaven Knows) who is taking on the iconic role of Rose, with Laura Bunting (Rent, Calamity Jane) as her daughter Louise. After her extraordinary performance in Kinky Boots which garnered her a Helpmann Award nomination, Sophie Wright makes her Hayes Theatre debut in the role of June while Anthony Harkin (The View UpStairs) returns to the Hayes to perform the role of Herbie. Other members of the multi-talented cast are hilarious comedian Jane Watt (Gate 64), Mark Hill (Muriel's Wedding), Rob Johnson (Calamity Jane), Jessica Vickers (Miracle City) and Matthew Predny (High Fidelity).

Rose, June and Louise are eking out a hard living in the dying days of vaudeville. Constantly on the road, always on the lookout for a way to fund their next meal - honestly or dishonestly - there's nothing glamorous about their show business life. Rose will fight for her daughters' success no matter what the cost, and both girls play along for as long as they can - until first one, then the other, reach breaking point and begin to question Rose's real motives for their life on the stage.

Critically acclaimed and multiple-award winning, Gypsy is the ultimate mother-daughter story - a gripping, funny and heartbreaking tale of the damage we do to those we love. Rose's own frustrated dreams of stardom are ploughed into her children; her own childhood wounds push her to glorify and smother her daughters in turn, and eventually to drive them both away.

Set across America in the 1920s, Arthur Laurents' landmark show documents the dying days of vaudeville and the birth of a shocking new form of entertainment - burlesque. Rose's fanatic determination pushes her family's loyalty to breaking point, but from the most unlikely of places emerges one of the twentieth century's most illustrious and ingenious entertainers - Gypsy Rose Lee.

Produced by the multiple award-winning teams behind Sweet Charity, Little Shop of Horrors (Luckiest Productions) and Calamity Jane (One Eyed Man Productions), Gypsy boasts an impressive Australian creative team comprising of Director Richard Carroll (Calamity Jane, Side Show), Musical Director Joe Accaria (Velvet), Choreographer Cameron Mitchell (Calamity Jane, Mack and Mabel) Designer Alicia Clements (Assassins, The Father) and Lighting Designer Trent Suidgest (Muriel's Wedding).

The celebrated score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim is packed with classic songs, including Let Me Entertain You, Some People, Everything's Coming Up Roses, Together Wherever We Go, You Gotta Get a Gimmick, and the iconic Rose's Turn.

Tickets for Gypsy are now available online at www.hayestheatre.com.au or by calling the Hayes Theatre Co box office during business hours on (02) 8065 7337.
