The much-loved rock opera GODSPELL - a timeless tale of kindness, tolerance and love will have a one-week season at the Playhouse Theatre, Sydney Opera House from 9 - 14 February 2016 before moving to Melbourne for performances in The Royal Botanical Gardens.

GODSPELL REIMAGINED features a cast of eight multi-talented all singing, all dancing performers who will take the audience on a magical ride of peace, love and joy.

GODSPELL first appeared off Broadway in 1971 and with music by legendary composer Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked) quickly became a favourite amongst lovers of theatre and proved to be one of the most popular musicals ever staged in Australia. GODSPELL opened at The Playbox Theatre in Melbourne in November 1971 and closed after 504 sold-out performances to a riotous crowd of well-wishers in December 1972.

GODSPELL was the brainchild of John-Michael Tebelak, who based the story on the Gospel of St Matthew. He then brought Stephen Schwartz in to write the music and a hit was born. Day By Day - a power ballad from the show was released as a single (produced by Ian 'Molly' Meldrum) and gave Colleen Hewett a number 1 hit, earned her a gold record and went on to become the biggest-selling Australian single of the year.

A film and several cast albums have been released and 2011 saw the triumphant Broadway revival of this much loved musical. Featuring songs Day By Day, By My Side, Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord, Save the People, All For the Best and more this vibrant, joyful show is set to once more thrill Australian audiences.
