The Sydney Cabaret Competition will discover a new generation of exceptional talent in Australia.
Entries are now open for this muchly-anticipated event, where the winner will be announced at the Sydney Cabaret Festival by international queen of cabaret, Trevor
Ashley.
In June, contestants will be asked to perform an original eight-minute cabaret 'set' in front of a live audience and panel of judges, including some of Australia's leading entertainers, including Helpmann Award winner Matt Lee, Broadway World Award winner Catherine Alcorn, Australian cabaret treasures Phil Scott, Avigail Herman, Margi de Ferranti and producers Mark Sutcliffe and Les Solomon.
The winners from each heat will then progress to the Grand Finale on Wednesday 10 July. With a prize pool worth more than $5,000, the opportunities and cash prizes could be career defining for the winners - including an offer to perform at Sydney's favourite
cabaret venues and work with our producer and judges on developing a full-length cabaret show.
The judges are looking for exceptional, original talent in the area of voice, creativity, performance and artistry - and an act who's a positive representative of the producers.
Applications are now open until 19 May 2019 at sydneycabaretcompetition.com.au.
Cabaret has a rich history in Australia - and this competition follows in the remarkable
footsteps of The Australian Cabaret Showcase, which discovered a decade of artists
who've all gone on to brighter futures in the industry, including Tom Sharah, Melody
Beck, Alexis Fishman, Toby Francis, Sheridan Harbridge, Marika Aubrey and Gillian
Cosgriff.
