Ensemble Theatre will stage the World Premiere of David Williamson's latest comedy, THE BIG TIME, which takes a satirical look at the ruthless and cut-throat world of celebrity. In the entertainment industry there's only one place all hopefuls want to be. The Big Time.
Mark Kilmurry, Artistic Director of Ensemble Theatre, who will be directing this new play, said THE BIG TIME questions the price of fame, ambition, friendship and what it takes to be true to yourself. THE BIG TIME takes us beneath the surface of the world of actors and celebrities as we all know the stark reality is that only one of them is going to get the role. I am thrilled to be directing David Williamson's latest social comedy with such an exciting cast.
Celia and Vicki were best friends at drama school, but the game of life has dealt them very different hands. Celia is a high profile soap star earning ridiculous amounts of money and the requisite harbourside views. Meanwhile Vicki is scraping by in gritty, critically acclaimed roles in independent theatre. When Vicki proposes they collaborate on an ambitious new film project, it could be a big opportunity for both of them to prove their mettle in the industry. But are Vicki's motives as well-intentioned as they seem, or will jealousy rear its ugly head?
David Williamson's trademark satirical pen finds razor-sharp form in this clever, stylish and sophisticated comedy set in the ruthless world of celebrity.
