Be transported to the cornfields of Iowa with Dead Fly Productions' Sydney Fringe showing of Scarecrow. The director of New Theatre's 2018 hit Nell Gwynn, Deborah Jones, brings you this dark and obscure Don Nigro play that will be at the Blood Moon Theatre from September 25th to September 29th.
Cally lives a lonely and claustrophobic life with her mother, an eccentric shut-in, in an isolated farmhouse on the edge of a cornfield. She is both spooked and spellbound by the scarecrow that keeps watch. When Cally meets a strange man who beckons her into the cornfields, she is led into a web of lust and betrayal.
Director Deborah Jones said, "I have always been drawn to Don Nigro's dark, unconventional, spooky style of writing. He is quite twisted; and I like that".
Under the direction of Deborah Jones (Nell Gwynn, New Theatre, Falling from Grace Darlo Drama Studio Theatre The Women, New Theatre), and Naomi Livingstone (Jesus Hoped the A Train, AFTT, An Aussie Affair, Bar me); Romney Stanton (Troilus and Cressida, Depot Theatre, That Eye, The Sky, New Theatre), Blake Wells (The Merchant of Venice, Bard on the Beach), and Gemma Scoble (Silent Disco, New Theatre, Hamlet, Bondi Feast) will star in Scarecrow.
Regarded as one of America's great dramatists, Don Nigro has written over 400 plays and despite this, he remains relatively unknown to the general public. In Scarecrow, audiences both familiar and unfamiliar with his work are invited to explore this dark and obscure play.
