It's been a long six years since the Canadian electro-funk pair visited Australia. With the duo set to appear at the upcoming Splendour In The Grass, Frontier Touring is thrilled to confirm that Chromeo will also be playing two long-overdue gigs in Melbourne and Sydney.
Having just kicked off their extensive world tour in support of fifth record Head Over Heels with a packed show at Coachella, the Montreal natives will be touching down in Australia in July to keep the party going. They'll perform headline shows at Melbourne's Max Watt's on Saturday 21 July and Sydney's Metro Theatre on Sunday 22 July.
Set to be released in June (Warner Music), Head Over Heels is Chromeo's most collaborative effort to date, with guest appearances from a slew of artists that bridge generations and genres. Grammy nominated rapper DRAM and guitarist
Jesse Johnson (Prince, The Time) stand out on most recent single
'Must've Been', which followed
'Juice', praised by The Guardian as 'a jaunty, electro-funk mega-banger', and
'Bedroom Calling', which features The-Dream and was described by Billboard as 'quite honestly one of the best Chromeo songs we've heard in years'.
Recorded over two years in their Los Angeles studio, Head Over Heels also features guest vocals from Stefflon Don, French Montana, Amber Mark and more, plus musical contributions from neo-soul legend Raphael Saadiq, 2000s R&B mastermind Rodney Jerkins, D'Angelo collaborator Pino Palladino, NY's Onyx Collective, members of Mtume and Toto and more. Far reaching and expansive, Head Over Heels is Chromeo's love letter to the funk, soul and R&B that has influenced them since their teens.
The glistening R&B jams and retro breakdowns of David "Dave 1" Macklovitch (vocals, guitar) and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel (keyboard, bass) first caught the world's attention on 2004 debut album She's In Control. 2007's Fancy Footwork produced huge hits in
'Bonafied Lovin' and
'Fancy Footwork', before the duo started dropping some big name collaborations. Solange appeared on Chromeo's third and fourth records Business Casual and White Women, the latter of which also featured the likes of
Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem) and Toro Y Moi. Last year, Chromeo were also given the chance to
remix Lorde's smash hit 'Green Light' - the first official remix ever commissioned by the New Zealand singer.
