If any single series sums up the spirit of the Brandenburg, it is the Noël! Noël! concerts with the acclaimed Brandenburg Choir.
This year will see a return to a more traditional program but full of absolute delights, promises Artistic Director Paul Dyer, including a particularly talented young singer who Paul believes is one of the outstanding voices of the new generation of performers.
Bonnie de la Hunty will take centrestage as soloist, the third young Perth soprano to star in Noël! Noël!
"In the early Noël! Noël! concerts, emerging sopranos Sara Macliver and Taryn Fiebig were guest soloists and they have both gone on to major careers as performers and recording artists," says Paul.
"I see a similar trajectory for Bonnie de la Hunty. She is a star on the rise and people will remember the first time they hear this magnificent young voice."
One of the most popular Brandenburg traditions, Noël! Noël! touches on the religious but is firmly grounded in the spiritual. Audiences love to hear the Brandenburg performing O Come All Ye Faithful and Stille Nacht, but Paul Dyer always includes music that moves people of all faiths and beliefs. There's always something fun and Paul likes to throw in some twists to give each Noël! Noël! something special.
"If you are planning to come to hear our Noël! Noël! in a church or a concert hall, I highly recommend booking early," says Paul. "These performances are always our fastest moving concerts and this year will certainly sell out in a flash!"
BONNIE DE LA HUNTY SAYS:
I just came back to Australia after studying early music singing at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the same school where Paul Dyer studied.
I wanted to connect with like-minded musicians when I returned to Australia and I emailed Paul to introduce myself. Less than a week later he asked me in to sing for him.
I was surprised and thrilled when he offered me guest soloist in this year's Noël! Noël! as I hadn't realised that this is what he had in mind when I auditioned.
My family and friends know how much I love Christmas. I bake and make decorations all through December. Now I'll have the chance to sing incredibly beautiful Baroque and Renaissance music, as well as traditional carols, alongside the musicians and choristers of the Brandenburg.
Could there be a better Christmas gift?
