Following a wildly successful world premiere run two years ago, shake & stir theatre co is haunting the Cremorne Theatre at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) again with an encore season of Bram Stoker's gothic masterpiece Dracula from 15 August to 2 September 2017.
Created and adapted by one of Australia's leading contemporary theatre companies, this gripping version of the 1897 horror classic is every bit as tortured and charismatic as the novel.
The twisted tale is directed by the award-winning Michael Futcher and adapted by shake & stir's co-Artistic Directors, Nelle Lee and Nick Skubij. When young lawyer Jonathan Harker visits Castle Dracula deep within the Carpathian Mountains, he is not expecting the strange hospitality he receives from his mysterious host. What unfolds is thrilling, dark and brilliantly executed theatre, verified by rave reviews.
The production features a stand-out cast including shake & stir co-Artistic Director Ross Balbuziente with Adele Querol, Michael Wahr and David Whitney.Michael Wahr will star as fresh-faced Jonathan, Nelle Lee takes on the role of the stoic Mina, Ross Balbuziente plays the fearlessly loyal Jack, Adele Querol embodies the vampiric Lucy, David Whitney appears as all-knowing vampire hunter Van Helsing and Nick Skubij will reprise the sinister titular role.
Mr Skubij said he was excited for the show to return to QPAC, where it all started, after an overwhelming response touring it around the country.
"Audience reactions have shown us people of all ages still love escaping to the luscious gothic world of this masterpiece," Mr Skubij said. "I think we have struck just the right balance - blood, shock, lust, horror and a touch of humour." Dracula premiered at QPAC in August 2015 with a string of sold-out performances and went on to receive five Matilda Awards nominations, winning Best Design (Set and Costumes) and Best Technical Design. Shake & stir theatre co's return season of Dracula marks seven years of collaboration with QPAC and reflects the Centre's commitment to supporting local companies in developing and presenting their work to a broader audience.Videos
