Barangaroo Delivery Authority has today announced the launch of its new Aboriginal cultural tours, 'Wild About Wattle', as part of its October school holiday program. These tours are designed to teach children and families about the traditional owners of the land and heritage of Barangaroo, all in a fun and engaging way.
With a focus on all things wattle, this hands-on program gives children the chance to get crafty, become historians, discover the native flora and fauna and delve into the cultural significance of Sydney's newest waterfront destination.
Clarence Slockee, Environmental Educator at the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, said Barangaroo is a place of great spiritual and cultural importance to Australia.
"'Wild About Wattle' will explore beautiful Barangaroo Reserve and its rich history. The tours will be a fantastic outdoor experience for the whole family," Clarence said.
"The program is a fun and engaging way for children to discover the Indigenous cultural heritage of this rediscovered area of Sydney Harbour."
'Wild About Wattle' will focus on a number of key areas including:
The wonderful world of wattle
Aboriginal languages
Traditional painting
Dreaming stories
Bush tucker and natural medicine
Aboriginal symbols.
Indigenous host, Clarence Slockee, is from the Mindjingbal clan of the Bundjalung tribe from the Far North Coast of NSW. A graduate of Australia's premier indigenous training college, NAISDA, Clarence is an accomplished musician and dancer.
