The AUSTRALIAN ROMANTIC & CLASSICAL ORCHESTRA concludes its stellar 2018 season in August with Poetical Melodies at Sydney's City Recital Hall (19 August) and the Melbourne Recital Centre (22 August).
The sublime string section of Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra takes centre stage in this program, to explore the Poetical Melodies of the Romantic period on gut strings, delving into works by Mendelssohn, Grieg, Van Bree, Puccini and Dvo?ák.
Directed by concertmaster Rachael Beesley, the rich and expressive 19th century style of performance is explored in this unique and engaging concert experience.Between the two performances, the orchestra will perform the final concert in the series Richard Gill Presents - A Voyage of Musical Discovery. "Voices & Instruments" on Tuesday 21 August at 6.30pm will showcase the orchestra in Johannes van Bree's Allegro for 4 String Quartets and Edvard Grieg's Elegiac Dances.
Then Camerata Antica will join the party, performing Monteverdi's madrigal 'O come sei gentile' followed by two works by Australian composers: Ode to Melancholy by Alice Chance and Black Tie by Elena Kats-Chernin.
The Young Mannheim Symphonists education program (Sydney July 17-21, Melbourne earlier this year) further complements the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra's concert season by inviting young musicians to play alongside professionals and be guided in the techniques of historically informed performance.
