What I'll Never Say is a new play that puts Australian politics and the process of making Parliamentary change under the looking glass at Sydney Fringe Festival from 6 to 9 September at Erskineville Town Hall.

Written by senior lobbyist at one of the largest multi-national pharmaceutical companies in the world, Stuart Englund has met almost every member of senior Parliament over the last decade and tells his story as a voyeur from both sides of the fence.

"What I'll Never Say is based on almost 30 years involved in party politics, government, lobbying government and throwing things at the TV when governments call it wrong. This play is based on working daily with the very people that are trying to make politics function," says Englund, who prior to being a Canberra lobbyist was a commercial lawyer and a political staffer in the early days of the Carr Labor Government in NSW.

What I'll Never Say asks the big philosophical questions: What if you had an idea? A vision of how to fix things and make them better? How far would you go? What if you put your effort, your ambition, your everything into politics? And if you did, what happens if it all comes crashing down?

This new play wrestles with the dreams we have, the choices we make and all that follows: the struggles of pre-selection, the larger world of the election, Parliament, life as a junior minister, the victories and crushing betrayals that follow, and, at the heart of it all, the idea of why we started on the path in the first place.

"Our politics is deep in a rough patch and it can be incredibly frustrating, but it isn't broken. Almost all of our politicians are women and men with the best of intentions. They aren't devils and they aren't saints, they're just human. When we're under pressure it isn't the time to give up on politics; if we want something different, it's time to get involved," said Englund.

What I'll Never Say is directed by Dan Graham who has worked with some of the leading Australian theatre companies, including MTC, Victorian Opera, The Ensemble, Opera Australia, Bell Shakespeare and Sport for Jove.
