Hailing from the South-Western United States, Susan Graham only very rarely performs abroad. Her next engagements demonstrate this: Dido (Les Troyens) in San Francisco and Countess Geschwitz (Lulu) at New York’s famous Metropolitan Opera, where she appears at least once per season. Since her début at Covent Garden in 1994, “America’s favourite mezzo”, as she is often dubbed, has led a brilliant international career. After beginning with remarkable performances of Mozart and Handel trouser roles, as well as other more virtuoso parts, she successfully took up the French opera repertory. For her Geneva recital, with accompanist Malcolm Martineau, she will be performing some of the greatest items of European music with works by Schumann, Fauré, Strauss, Grieg, Debussy, Poulenc, Tchaikovsky, Granados and Berlioz.
