This monumental work of French opera originates in the same epic legends of Ancient Greece as La Belle Hélène. Because of this, the Grand Théâtre will be presenting both pieces simultaneously, to rekindle the theatre tradition of Antiquity where tragedy and comedy were both performed on the same day. Among all the composers of his sizable repertory, it is well known that Charles Dutoit has a soft spot for Hector Berlioz (with a 1996 Grammy award under his belt for his recording of Les Troyens). Almost twenty years later, the Lausanne-born conductor is for the first time ever in the Grand Théâtre orchestra pit with the famous London orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic, of which he has been the musical director since 2009. Maestro Dutoit can count on an exceptional cast of soloists and the talents of the Grand Théâtre Opera Chorus to make his maiden performance at the Grand Théâtre an unforgettable one.
