Brünnhilde sends Siegfried off to new adventures but keeps the Ring as pledge of their love. At the court of King Gunther, Siegfried is drugged with a love potion and tricked into capturing Brünnhilde for Gunther and marrying the king’s sister Gutrune. Hagen, Gunther’s half-brother and son of Alberich the Nibelung who wants the Ring back, orchestrates this evil plot against Siegfried. Brünnhilde unwisely betrays Siegfried’s vulnerability to Hagen who treacherously kills him. Brünnhilde is left alone with the Ring and the duty to cleanse the world of the greed and grief it has caused…
