In continuation of a prestigious recital season at the Grand Théâtre, we are glad to invite you to a musical evening in the distinguished company of Diana Damrau. Geneva’s opera fans are now well acquainted with this soprano from her regular appearances at the Grand Théâtre, on stage or in recital, in between engagements at the Met, Vienna or Munich. Diana Damrau has certainly come a long way since her first stage appearance as Nozze di Figaro’s Barberina in Würzburg. Her long series of lyric achievements began in 1999 with an unrivalled performance of the Queen of the Night, for which she won a prestigious young artists award. Called to perform in a Salieri opera at La Scala with Riccardo Muti in 2002, she made her London début one year later as the Queen of the Night, stunning Covent Garden with her coloratura. In 2005, her interpretation of Zerbinetta at the Met confirmed Diana Damrau’s status as an international prima donna and her voice has since soared all over the world. She is an accomplished performer of Mozart and Strauss and has amply demonstrated her passion and talent for the bel canto repertoire. Before her Philine in Ambroise Thomas’ Mignon in Geneva, Diana Damrau made a remarkable performance as Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore at the Met, along with Juan Diego Flórez. But Diana Damrau is also a recitalist, a Liedersängerin of distinction, with a recording of art songs by Franz Liszt unanimously hailed by the musical press. Her talent for poetic diction and her palette of vocal colour are truly exceptional. She is, without a doubt, a Lorelei whose song is made to enchant and leaves no one unmoved.
