Barbara Frittoli’s début was in 1994 as a remarkable Countess Almaviva in Ferrara. Since then, she has brought much musical enjoyment to audiences at the great lyric festivals – Salzburg, Glyndebourne – and on major international stages such as Vienna, La Scala, the Met, the Paris Opera and Covent Garden, with leading conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Colin Davis, James Levine, Zubin Mehta or Lorin Maazel. Micaela, Thaïs, Desdemona, Elisabetta di Valois, Liú, Amelia and Leonora hold no secrets for Barbara Frittoli and her performance as Donna Elvira in Robert Carsen’s staging of Don Giovanni for the opening of the 2011 season at La Scala was a huge success. She has played Micaela to El?na Garanca’s Carmen at the Met and, along with Ludovic Tézier, astounded Paris in Giorgio Strehler’s unforgettable staging of Le Nozze di Figaro. For her long-standing col- laboration with the Vienna State Opera, she was recently awarded the title of Kammersängerin, a rare distinction for artists of truly international calibre. This time, no need to rush to Milan, New York or Vienna: Barbara Frittoli will work her magic on Geneva’s opera stage on May 8th, in a recital date that will certainly prove memorable.
