THE THREE MUSKETEERS is coming to Theater Basel in Switzerland from February 2nd to March 30th, 2019.
The three musketeers, who are actually four, appear and reflect on their being alone. Can one explain the famous formula "one for all, all for one" mathematically? Who is actually "the one"? And who are all "all"? They transform themselves into their own servants and horses, questioning Dumas' story - and, above all, questioning it. The Musketeers fight for life and limb, the actors play around their heads and collars.
In his adventure novel "The Three Musketeers", published in 1844, Alexandre Dumas confronts us with some literary inconsistencies that director Antonio Latella uses as an opportunity to stage the duel with the material. In the tradition of the Commedia dell'Arte, the actors challenge him with words, weapons and much Italian anarchy to fight.
Hope dies last.
