Molierè's comedy TARTUFFE is heading to Theater Basel for a limited run, from Sept. 14 to Sept. 28.
In his tongue-in-cheek and radical re-enactment, the Cologne-based author and musician PeterLicht takes up key motifs and characters from Molière's comedy and turns them away from the socio-political reality of French absolutism in order to target our present.
In the play, Orgon, a wealthy Parisian patriarch falls under the influence of a self-righteous hypocrite named Tartuffe. Orgon becomes obsessed with Tartuffe and the religious ideals the trickster supposedly stands for.
