The opera is based on a medieval ballad also narrated in Bocciccios Decamerone. The libretto tells of lord of the manor, The Protector, who order a colored manuscript of The Boy. The manuscript should be a memorial of The Protectors family, but the images evokes the same time his wife Agnès awareness and desire for The Boy. The Protector discovers, however, the relationship and not only kill The Boy but also forces the wife to eat his heart. But who really takes the final revenge on anyone ...? Written on Skin had its world premiere in Aix-en-Provence summer 2012. since then it has been played and praised by the audience in the great opera houses in Amsterdam, Vienna, Paris, London, Munich and Florence and now receives its Scandinavian premiere of a new production in Stockholm.
