Prince Golaud is out hunting when he suddenly hears someone crying in the woods. On a lake he finds Mélisande who is lost and can not find homes. She becomes Golauds bride and travels with him to his grandfather, King Arkel, gloomy castle. There she meets Pelléas, Golauds half-brother, and drops her wedding ring in a fountain. Exactly at the same time Golaud thrown from his horse, a premonition that something terrible has happened. Back at the castle begins Golaud, mad with jealousy, spy on Pelléas et Mélisande ...
