Giacomo Puccini's opera about Cio-Cio-San, known as Butterfly, who forsake their family, their faith and their culture in order to marry the American Lieutenant Pinkerton, is one of opera's most popular and played works. Autumn 2014 make director and former head of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Kirsten Harms, a new production of Madama Butterfly for the Royal Opera. A dramatic love story that begins with a grand wedding where the American Lieutenant Pinkerton marries his beloved Butterfly. She, in turn, believe in His eternal faithfulness and love, even though he leaves her. She is willing to wait for him forever. When Pinkerton finally returns, he finds a lost woman with a child, still at the abandoned place where they celebrated their wedding. When he tries to take away the baby, he sees Butterfly develop his father's knife ... Madama Butterfly broadcast live in cinemas 21 November 2014.
