SISTER ACT (EN VÄRSTING TILL SYSTER) Comes To The China Theater ImageEn Värsting till Syster (Sister Act)

The feelgood musical Sisters Act come to Sweden! The premiere will take place on September 11 at the China Theater. It is a divine rap, funny and musical comedy, based on the 1992 Blockbuster movie, Sister Act, featuring Whoopi Goldberg. The musical was nominated in the US for five Tony Awards for "Best Musical" and of course "Best Music". The captivating music is made by composer Alan Menken, a numerous Oscar winner, is known as the man behind many of Disney's greatest hits, eg "Can you feel the love tonight" and "Beauty and the beast". In this swinging monastery, Menken has created a rosary of hits ranging from 70's disco in Barry White's spirit to perfectly tuned ballads. Of course, the musical also contains a huge dose of pat-friendly power gospel. The performance Sister Act proves once again that singing nuns definitely belong to the big musical scenes.

It is Christmas 1977 and the discodiva Deloris Van Cartier (Gladys Del Pilar) dreams of becoming a new Donna Summer. Instead, she is unexpectedly witnessing a brutal murder, staged by her erratic "boyfriend", club owner Curtis Jackson (Karl Dyall). Police Eddie Souther (Kim Sulocki) persuades Deloris to testify against Curtis and in return promises her a completely new and protected identity until the trial. What Deloris did not expect is that her new identity is like a nun in the rare, stringent and affectionate monastery of Queen of Angels, where the Abbedissan (Suzanne Reuter) manages with an iron hand. But not even the Abbot can fail to worry about the fact that the nun choir under the leadership of Sister Maria Lazarus (Charlotte Strandberg) sounds so bad that the number of visitors at the services is approaching zero, which in practice threatens the entire monastery's existence.

Deloris sees her chance to show what she is doing as a musician and, with the help of, among other things, the constantly optimistic Sister Maria Patrick (Birgitta Rydberg) chooses to heavenly heights. And not only heavenly, sometimes the nuns' power gospel ends up dangerously close to the increasingly popular disco rhythms, and it is certainly not at all what Abbey's thought. A power struggle takes place inside the monastery while Curtis Jackson and his gang begin to imagine where the police hid Deloris. However, what Curtis does not count on is the strong sisterhood that prevails in the monastery and that Deloris has also become an appreciated part of. Because when all the sisters release their voices together - then everything can happen - and do it in this fast-paced, captivating and divinely fun musical.
