Santa's wife is the wife of Santa is a newly written musical in one act by Matilda Bördin (script and director) and Marcus Sturewall (lyrics and music) and you can easily think that this will be a Christmas musical, but that is not really the case. No, here we meet Katrin (Ida Beimo), who has a dream to bring joy to the children in the town she lives in. Together with her friends in the association Nystana (Ida Löfholm, Jessie Lewis Skoglund and Stina Gunnarsson), she realizes her dream of that all the toys they made should be distributed to the children. A large project that gets no attention from the mayor when they apply for grants. But they don't give up and keep working. An unfortunate circumstance means that Katrin has to seek the help of her husband Niklas and since then he is the one who is celebrated worldwide. Unfortunately, it is in the middle of nowhere that a man gets the credit for the women's hard work. There are some lines that hit the spot and have a high recognition factor, but which seem to be most appreciated by the female audience.

The music is easily accessible, pleasant and catchy, but the venue is not the most ideal for a good balance between the music and the vocals, so unfortunately the music sometimes is too loud for the vocals the be heard, which is a shame because the lyrics are quite entertaining. The scenography consists mainly of wooden beams that are moved around to create new rooms but it gets a bit disturbing and sometimes it feels like it has no purpose and takes some focus away from the singing and dialogue. A bit into the act, mulled wine and gingerbread are offered, but you have to sit right to get something. Nice feature but a little better organization and it would be even nicer.

Even though it wasn't as Christmasy as I had thought, you get a certain Christmas feeling, but I still like it. It is well performed, the girls have good voices, the music is generally pleasant and positive. I hope that everyone who sees it will get food for thought and become better at honoring those who should be honored and why not start with what we are encouraged to do - let Santa Claus hand out the Christmas presents this year.

Santa Mother is the wife of Father Santa plays until December 16 and is well worth seeing. Aliasteatern has a nice little bar with good prices – perfect for a glass of Cava before the musical starts.

It runs until the 16th of December,
