For the eighth year the concert From Broadway to Duvemåla goes on tour with musical songs in Sweden. On stage this year we see Malena Tuvung, Emmi Christensson (played Christine in Phantom of the Opera in West End) and John Martin Bengtsson (played Phantom in Phantom of the opera in Copenhagen, Kristianstad and Stockholm) again and for the first time Linda Pritchard and Martin Redhe Nordh joins the team. A quintet that complemented each other well and created a good musical dynamic for this year's set.

The concert opens with Cats, which doesn't really give that claw that previous years' sets have had, but picks up quickly when it's followed by the leitmotif to Fame. Then it rolls on with a lovely series of musical songs - a mix of old/new and well-known and lesser-known/played. To the latter category belongs Hadestown, which was staged in 2019 on Broadway and won eight Tony Awards and which is now running in London but has not been performed in Sweden. From it, we were treated to two songs with the whole ensemble which really added flavor.

With Emmi and John Martin on stage, who both played in Phantom of the Opera, we will of course hear a couple of absolutely wonderful interpretations from Phantom of the Opera, songs that you can never hear too many times when performed so well. Emmi with her fine bright voice sang the lovely Angel Song from Som som i himlen. The sun was shining out so there was no rain when Malena Tuvung, bent on her now classic powerful interpretation of Rain on my, paraded out of Funny Girl, which this year celebrates 60 years since it opened on Broadway. A little more recent is the musical about Tina Turner from which Linda Pritchard sang a couple of songs in true Tina Turner spirit. Linda has a powerful voice that is perfect for slightly rockier songs. One of the highlights of the evening was Total Eclipse from the Heart, in the duet version from Tanz der Vampire with Linda and John Martin.

The "newcomer" Martin Redhe Nord stood for this year's Dove painting section when he early on emotionally sang The gold turned to sand. Martin has both a strong voice and a special comedic talent and was responsible for much of the comedy in the concert. His medley where he rips through a bunch of musical songs at breakneck speed, in a top hat and his purple feather boa, was the funnest tonight and it's impressive how he managed all the lyrics and twists. He was also wonderfully comically charming in the duet You and Me from Book of Mormon with John Martin. Those of you who have seen the musical surely understand who was who in that duet.

The concert ends to a crowd-pleasing performance with Queen, Abba and Grease, where the audience quickly joins in and dances away. But I wish towards the end we had heard either One day more or Do you hear the people sing from Les Miserable. I miss that kind of powerful ensemble numbers in this year's lineup, which otherwise has a good mix of musical songs from different genres and eras and which are performed by some of our best musical artists together with talented musicians under the direction of Carina E Nilsson. A concert concept that I really like. From Broadway to Duvemåla is played around the country until November 17 - and is a perfect place to get energy when the gray autumn days arrives.
