Ingrid Bergman was on the high of her Hollywood career when she left her husband and daughter to live with Roberto Rossellini and follow him to the Volcanic Island of Stromboli.
The musical takes place between the films Joan of Arc and Anastasia (1948-56) and begins in Ingrid's private cinema. Ingrid Bergman was on the high of her Hollywood career when she left her husband and daughter to live with Roberto Rossellini and follow him to the Volcanic Island of Stromboli. It is about the move to Italy, about the violent slander she had to endure for her life choices and about how she managed the other had perished. In the actress' feverish pursuit of authenticity, she looks at her own works and at the same time gives everyone in the audience the opportunity to ask themselves: What is it that drives us? How permissive is motherhood really? And who are we to judge?
