Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" is one of the most successful pieces of theatre and entertainment of all time and continues to captivate audiences all over the world.

The first Swedish production in the late 80's was a huge success so this revival was very anticipated by the old and the new generations of Swedish theatre-goers. I heard someone in the audience say that it was like visiting an old friend after almost 30 years.

I have previously seen the show four times in London and this production does not disappoint and definitely lives up to it's original source.

30 minutes before the show started, I dissolved into the buzzing audience of excited Swedish A-list celebrities, friends and family of the cast.

Peter Jöback makes the character of The Phantom his own with a magnifically and minutely detailed and nuanced performance which really stands out from the long list of his Phantom predecessors all over the world. You can clearly tell that he has done his research and knows the character inside out.

Just like her character, Emmi Christensson blooms throughout the evening to become the leading lady of the show. Her beautiful yet powerful soprano seems effortless and especially during her act two solo - "Om du bara vore här igen"/"Wishing you were somehow here again". A song that helps emphasize Christine Daaé's growth,

She developes a great chemistry with Anton Zetterholm who plays Christine's old childhood friend and future fiance, Raoul.

Zetterholm is completing the brilliant trio with a rich voice and a fresh take on the role.

Considering it's age, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is still visually impressive with the mix of old-fashioned sets and the beautiful haunting lights and smoke during the title song.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA really continues to prove how classics like this never gets old and always manages to find its way to new audiences and generations.

The show and music in this production is richly orchestrated. But I would personally, perhaps prefer a raised volume to make the dramatic score, even more dramatic.

The actors and actresses playing the secondary characters all deliver top-notch performances together with excellent ensemble with a mix of actors and actresses from the Phantom World Tour.

The Swedish production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA plays at CIRKUS until April 2017.
