Programs about musicals is not common on Swedish Television but now for six Wednesdays we can enjoy 30 minutes of "Sarah's sounds of musicals". Sarah is Sarah Dawn Finer, one of the best singers/musical artists in Sweden, as well as being one of the greatest TV hostess on Swedish TV. She loves musicals and had her own idea that she wanted to make programs about musicals. In six programs she show us her view of Broadway and interviewing a lot of important people in the musical industry.
In this first episode she took us backstage on Kinky Boots with the help of the actress Jennifer Perry. Very interesting to see the various rooms like the wig room, dressing rooms etc. She also spoke to the producer and Theater owner Jordan Roth. A visit to Sardis as well.
Later on in the episode she meet up with Stephen Schwartz and director Joe Mantello to talk about Wicked and the process of creating an original musical.
For any musical lover this is a Christmas present in advance. It is interesting and gives us access to areas the audience normally do not have access to. Sarah is warm and has a genuine interest and admiration for the persons she interviews. And there is no doubt that she loves musicals. She is bringing Broadway to Sweden and for a short time we actually are transferred to Broadway.
Due to copyrights I believe the program can't be viewed outside Sweden on SVT Play, but I include the link if you are in the right broadcasting zone. It is broadcasted on Wednesday at 21:00 at SVT 1 CET.
