Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons – The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern day classic. The queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, King Henry II, and princes Richard, Geoffrey, and John ally and betray to gain advantage during the Christmas of 1183.
