On October 4 & 5 at 7:30pm and again on Sunday October 6 at 2pm, Midnight will bring back
NOW PLAYING THIRD BASE FOR THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS…BOND, JAMES BOND, written and performed by Joe Hanrahan. The play has been seen twice in St. Louis, (first at the St. Louis Fringe Festival) but this year marks the 60th Anniversary of when the show takes place, 1964. TIX at GreenfinchSTL.com.
(NOTE: October 7 marks the first day of the 1964 World Series - the Yankees vs. the Cardinals
in St. Louis. The Cards won that Series four games to three.)
In the show Hanrahan tells of that momentous time. We were still reeling from the Kennedy assassination, but then The Beatles came along and some light entered our lives. More excitement for the future arrived when one of the most sensational movies of all time, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE with James Bond, was released. And then the St. Louis Cardinals started catching our eye.
And then…
There’s more and it’s all wrapped up in a script that insists that the play is not really about any
of the aforementioned, it’s about the theatre. And specifically, one man theatre. (Joe Hanrahan,
Midnight’s Artistic Director, has performed about eleven dozen one-man shows, much to the chagrin of theatre types, but this is the only one he’s written.)
Snoops Theatre Thoughts called it “A delightful show that’s part memoir, part nostalgia, part history lesson and all fascinating. A difficult show to describe, but what it is is excellent.”
Hanrahan said “I’ve never had a more visceral reaction from an audience after a show. People
are fascinated and energized by the memories of St. Louis and more.”
This year, for Midnight, Hanrahan has appeared in SPIRITS TO ENFORCE, OLD TIMES and
AUDITIONS! at the St. Louis Fringe, wrote/directed two shows at Blue Strawberry, MOVIE MUSIC and JACEY’S JAZZ JOINT, featuring Eileen Engel, and is continuing with the hit Midnight show about Linda Ronstadt, JUST ONE LOOK (scheduled again on October 30 at Blue Strawberry)
The original production of NOW PLAYING… was directed by Shane Signorino. This edition will be directed by Morgan Clark. Morgan wrote and performed THE OPERA GHOST REALLY EXISTED about the Phantom of the Opera at the recent Fringe Festival, and also produced/directed THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW at Greenfinch (with an encore presentation scheduled there October 26.)
Michael Musgrave-Perkins has designed Video for the show. Michael has previously provided
Video projections for previous Midnight shows, including ST. LOUIS WOMAN, A MODEL FOR MATISSE, JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG and LITTLE THING BIG THING.
Greenfinch is at Greenfinch - 2525 S. Jefferson, Saint Louis, MO.
