The evening includes performances of beloved classical ballets and works by master choreographers George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon, Krzysztof Pastor and Marius Petipa.
The inaugural presentation of the Annelise Mertz Visionary Award in Dance will also take place at An Evening of Ballet Stars. The award is named in honor of Annelise Mertz—founder and first board president of Dance St. Louis, and founder and former head of Washington University in St. Louis’ dance program. The award honors the lifetime achievement of a visionary artist in the professional dance world.
The inaugural award will be given to Sally Brayley Bliss, past Dance St. Louis executive director/executive director emeritus (1995-2006), co-founder and former artistic director of The Joffrey II Dancers (1969-1989), and former principal dancer with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera and National Ballet of Canada.
