The Sheldon presents Paul H. Alpert & "3" w/ Kimmy V & John Farrar on Tuesday, May 03, 2011 at 7:00 PM.
Paul H. Alpert was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but raised in St. Louis. In 1974, at age 12, he picked up his first guitar, and has spent the rest of his life mastering a wide variety of styles, from blues approaches to fingerpicking, always with a strong sense of melody. Think Stephen Stills or Jorma Kaukonen to get your first impression. Alpert plays... in ten different tunings. The songs he writes are sometimes sarcastic, often humorous, and full of heart.Their sound is a cross section of blues, rock and jazz. With Myron Willis on bass and Paul Shaw on percussion.Kim Vrooman sings "with dangerous abandon, jacking words like a thief." Named Best Female Vocalist in St. Louis 2003 by the Riverfront Times, she is excited about playing live and inviting folks to listen. She has been performing since 6th grade on a variety of instruments including French horn, trumpet, and a bit of piano, but she feels most at home now with her Taylor acoustic and a new vocal melody.Videos
