The Sheldon presents Peter Martin Music: Peter Martin, solo piano, February 10, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. Through the recurring Peter Martin Music: Live series, Martin showcases jazz masters past and present in an intimate and casual setting. Special Music for Lifelong Achievement Instrument Drive! MFLA and Horns to Havana have teamed up to collect and send musical instruments, both donated and purchased, to students in schools in and around Havana, Cuba. Donate a used musical instrument at any concert during February and March, or bring your donations to The Sheldon during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

By popular demand, Peter Martin performs a solo concert that includes music from his latest solo album, Set of Five, along with New Orleans favorites, romantic jazz standards from the "Great American Songbook" and several Brazilian tunes, influenced by his last Sheldon concert with Romero Lubambo. When asked about performing a solo show on his series Martin says, "The awesome piano and great acoustics of The Sheldon are a big point of interest for a solo piano show. People said to me, 'We love the guests you've brought in, but we'd be happy just to hear you!'"

Raised in St. Louis , and with strong roots in the New Orleans jazz scene, Peter Martin, RFT winner for Best Jazz Artist in 2010, is an accomplished pianist, producer, arranger and composer, and has traveled the world playing with today's finest jazz musicians. On January 19, Martin will perform with vocalist Dianne Reeves at the White House for a State Dinner with President Obama and Chinese President Hu Juntao. The program includes musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Chris Botti and Antonio Hart.
