The Sheldon, The Billiken Club at Saint Louis University and 88.1 KDHX present "The Sheldon Sessions," featuring Carolina Chocolate Drops, October 20 at 9 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops began as three kids sharing their love of music in weekly musical jam sessions, traveling to North Carolina to play with old-time fiddler
Joe Thompson. After forming a traditional string band in tribute to Joe, they began playing at town squares and farmer's markets to perfect their sound, drawing in fans with their unique combination of traditional string band music and modern sensibilities. In 2008, they became the first black string band to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. This year, with the release of their Nonesuch recording,
Genuine Negro Jig, the Carolina Chocolate Drops have made a bold mark on the music scene, covering music by everyone from
Joe Thompson and
Tom Waits to Blu Cantrall. For more information, visit

A new series for a new generation, "The Sheldon Sessions" series provides a unique opportunity to experience some of today's most distinctive rock, alt-country, Americana, and folk-rock musicians, live in the intimate environment of the Sheldon Concert Hall. A joint venture between The Sheldon and 88.1 KDHX, the on-going series will both introduce up-and-coming artists to St. Louis audiences, and present established artists, many of whom often perform in larger venues, in a concert hall setting.
