Michael Oberlander, president of the Board of Directors of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, announced today that the Augustin family has given $1 million to The Rep to endow its artistic director position.
"We are very grateful to the Augustin family for this generous gift," Oberlander said. "One of the components of our strategic plan has been to leverage the 50th anniversary to increase financial support for The Rep and to build our endowment. The Augustins' gift strengthens our ability to achieve this objective as we launch our 50th anniversary season."
The Augustins' endowment represents the largest single gift in The Rep's 50-year history. The family has supported The Rep for decades through generous financial gifts, as well as serving on The Rep's Board of Directors.
In recognition of this gift, The Rep's artistic director will hold the title of the Augustin Family Artistic Director.
"This gift is historic and it reaffirms The Rep's position as one of the major cultural institutions in the St. Louis community," said Steven Woolf, The Rep's Augustin Family Artistic Director.
The Rep's 50th anniversary season launches on September 9 with
Stephen Sondheim's thrilling musical
Follies. The celebration continues with the legendary, Tony award-winning
Bernadette Peters headlining The Rep's Gala on September 24 at the Chase Park Plaza. Additional special events will mark The Rep's 50th anniversary, including a Theatre Expo on September 17.
