The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis announced today that it is an honoree of the 2011 St. Louis Arts Awards by the Arts and Education Council. The Rep has been awarded the Excellence in the Arts Award for providing substantial and varied opportunities for learning about the human experiences through theater arts.

Presented since 1992, the St. Louis Arts Award is the preeminent award honoring individuals and organizations who achieve a legacy of artistic excellence, and businesses that enrich St. Louis' arts and cultural community. The 2011 celebration is the 20th anniversary of the event.

"We are delighted with this year's honorees, they truly represent the breadth and depth of the arts community in St. Louis and the corporations, organizations and people that make it possible," says Cynthia A. Prost, President of the Arts and Education Council.

The Arts and Education Council said this of The Rep: Since 1966, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has been the region's premier live, professional theater company and has enhanced the quality of cultural life for all who attend. Through accessible performances and educational outreach, The Rep embodies all that great regional theater should be - high-caliber, provocative and enriching.

"The Rep is absolutely thrilled to be recognized with the Excellence in the Arts Award from the Arts and Education Council. It is quite an honor to be acknowledged in this way," said Steven Woolf, artistic director of The Rep.

The 20th annual St. Louis Arts Awards will be held January 24, 2011 in the Khorassan Ballroom at the Chase Park Plaza beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner and awards program at 7:00 pm.
