William Shakespeare's Pericles, a sweeping tale of politics and intrigue, laughter and tears, loss and reunion, lies and treachery, exhilaration and sex, magic and mystery, and death and miracles will be presented by The Black Rep, January 5 through January 30, 2011, at the Grandel Theatre, with performances Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are available from The Black Rep Box Office (314) 534-3810, or from MetroTix (314) 534-1111, or online at www.metrotix.com.

Pericles is directed by Andrea Frye, who has directed Yasmina Reza's Art, and August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean for The Black Rep. Her production of Shakespeare's epic will move in time through the African Diaspora, from the shores of pre-colonial Africa to the Caribbean, to twentieth century New Orleans, Cuba and the Gullah Islands, using original music and dance, and breathtaking visual imagery to create a stunning metaphor for the African experience.

Ms. Frye said, "It's awesome to see how perfectly the African-American experience overlays this exhilarating piece of storytelling."

Ka'ramuu Kush will portray Pericles, and the cast (all playing multiple roles) includes Ryan Cunningham, Joe Hanrahan, Dwight House, Linda Kennedy, Erik Kilpatrick, Patrese D. McClain, Robert Mitchell, Rich Pisarkiewicz, Terell Randall, Sr., Chauncy Thomas, Susie Wall, Sharisa Whatley and Theo Wilson.

Black Rep Founder and Producing Director, Ron Himes, who has devised an acting company approach for Pericles and The Black Rep's February show, Lynn Nottage's 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning Ruined, said, "We launch Season 34 with a classical production that utilizes a core group of St. Louis artists followed by a contemporary production, showcasing some of St. Louis' strongest talent."

Pericles set is designed by Dunsai Dai, with costumes by Sarita Fellows, lights by Mark Varns and sound by Robin Weatherall.
