That Uppity Theatre Company Partners with Various Local Organizations for National Coming Out Day

That Uppity Theatre Company will be hosting this year's event, National Coming Out Day, October 11th at the Missouri History Museum (5700 Lindell Blvd. St. Louis, MO. 63112). The event will feature a myriad of local organization booths where attendees can get information about resources on their growing community. We will also offer a production of playback theatre around the theme of LGBTQIA, Allied Lives, and Coming Out Stories.

"Already this year, we witnessed LGBTQIA citizens fall target to the most deleterious mass shooting in U.S. history. Given the escalation of attacks on LGBTQIA lives and rights, this is a pivotal time to come together to celebrate and support this courageous community that touches all," said Joan Lipkin, Producing Artistic Director of That Uppity Theatre Company.

The evening will feature Playback Theatre, which is a highly specialized improv form in which audience members are invited to share stories of their lives. They then have the opportunity to see their stories enacted or "played back" live on the spot in a variety of formats, including song. This unique form of theatre is performed around the world and it's a delight to bring this rich, often humorous, yet touching experience to St. Louis.

Some of the community organizations that will be at the pre-show resource event includes: AARP, Band Together, #Boom Magazine, CVC St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, Doorways, GLEAN - Ameren's Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender Employees and Allies Network, Human Rights Campaign, Metro Trans Umbrella Group, O & E St. Louis, PROMO - Promoting Equality for all Missourians, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, Prime Timers St. Louis, STL Village, The Spot, St. Charles and St. Louis PFLAG - Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gay, among others.

The event is free of charge and community tabling will be available from 6:00-7:30pm. The playback performance starts at 7:30pm and will conclude by 9:00pm.
