Today, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra announced its schedule of free On Stage at Powell community concerts with themes that focus on diversity, inclusion and music education advocacy. Each concert will last about an hour, and all are open to the public. Seating is general admission and available on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets are needed, but RSVPs are requested.
SLSO IN UNISON
Artist in Residence and recording artist Brian Owens will lead SLSO musicians, IN UNISON Scholars and Fellows, and students from the SLSO's Mentoring the Music: Peer to Peer diversity initiative in a concert featuring the music of Curtis Mayfield. EXTRA CREDIT On Stage at Powell: A Music Educator and SLSO Side by Side Experience
Resident Conductor Gemma New will lead area music teachers and SLSO musicians in a special side by side concert that celebrates the educators who teach music in our schools. Equal Play: Celebrating Women Composers
Women from the SLSO will play music written by women composers. SLSO musicians Kristin Ahlstrom, Andrea Jarrett, Shannon Farrell Williams, Anne Fagerburg, Jennifer Nitchman, Diana Haskell, and Felicia Foland, and pianists Nina Ferrigno Andrews and Kelly Karamanov will bring works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Nadia Boulanger and Kristin Kuster to life on the Powell Hall stage.
