"Glee" - "American Idol" - "Dancing with the Stars" - Fans of this genre of entertainment now have a local competition to rally behind: St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase. The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation (Fox PACF) is proud to bring the St. Louis area a contest that will culminate with a FREE Broadway-style production at The Fabulous Fox Theatre on Friday, May 6th. Tickets will be available at no charge at The Fox box office and online beginning April 4th.

Fox PACF President, Mary Strauss (co-owner of Fox Associates including the Fox Theatre & Tony Award-winning Fox Theatricals in New York) and Fox PACF Executive Director, Kathryn Ballard are co-producing the event along with Pat Vogelsang (Emmy Award-winning producer) and Terry Lynford. The event will follow a competition format with students vying for scholarships and prizes for themselves and their schools through preliminaries, semi-finals and the final competition at The Fox. Broadway performer and director Tony Parise will jointly direct the final showcase with St. Louisans Gerri Stretz and Yvonne Meyer. In addition to the scholarships and prizes, the top ten finalists will increase their exposure and experience with the chance to perform on stages throughout the St. Louis metro area.

The call for entries went out to 180 St. Louis metro area high schools in the fall of 2010. Each school is allowed to have up to six students, 9th-12th grade, performing together in categories of dance, acting, vocal music, instrumental music, magic, comedy, circus skills or any combination of the aforementioned. Competitors will judged on technical ability, stage presence, interpretation, originality, content and overall appearance.

A total of 56 high schools have registered and will be competing at the preliminaries on April 9th at three locations: De Smet Jesuit High School, Washington University's South Campus and Lindenwood University's Belleville campus. Approximately 25 acts will be chosen to move on to the semi-finals on April 16th at DeSmet High School. Approximately 10 will go on to the final competition and the choreographed Broadway-style production at The Fox on May 6th to compete for scholarships and prizes. In all rounds of competition, acts will be judged by professionals in the performing arts community.

KETC/The Nine Network has joined with Fox PACF as an event partner and will be taping the entire final competition as well as taping segments of the prelims and schools groups to culminate in a broadcast of the event on KETC (date TBD). They are also loaning video cameras to students competing so they can document and learn how to cut together their own video version of their journey.
