Legendarily transgressive film director and screenwriter John Waters, whose cult favorites HAIRSPRAY and CRY-BABY were both reconceived as Broadway musicals, takes a few minutes to wish St. Louis' New Line Theatre a happy 25th season in his own distinctive style.
Waters also takes a moment to pitch his new theatre project, something guaranteed to delight and offend millions.
"The bad boy of musical theatre," New Line mounted the American regional premiere of CRY-BABY in 2012 and will begin its 25th season with the regional premiere of HEATHERS.

New Line Theatre, "The Bad Boy of Musical Theatre," was created in 1991, at the vanguard of a new wave of nonprofit musical theatre being born across the country during the early 1990s, offering an alternative to the commercial musical theatre of New York and Broadway tours. The New Liners believe in what Broadway and film actor Laurence Luckinbill once wrote in a letter to artistic director Scott Miller: "Go broke if you must, but always over-estimate the public's intelligence. They will thank you for it."
