COCA presents the first show in its new performance series, COCA Presents 2013-2014, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, October 19-20, 2013, in COCA's Founders' Theatre. Purveyor of family hip-hop at its finest, recording artist 23 Skidoo has captivated crowds internationally with his own funky brand of half-pint party music. Combining deft wordplay, great storytelling and pure positivity on top of thumping drums and sophisticated multi-instrumental pieces, 23 Skidoo speaks to kids and parents alike, without ever condescending. Recommended for ages 3 to 10.
After more than a decade of touring as a rapper/producer and sharing the stage with the likes of RUN DMC, Mos Def, TALIB KWELI and the P FUNK ALL STARS, 23 Skidoo dropped EASY (2008), his debut KID HOP album for and with his 5-year-old daughter, Saki. The idea caught on and spread like wildflowers, and between EASY and his sophomore release, UNDERGROUND PLAYGROUND, 23 Skidoo has scored four #1 hits on SiriusXM, garnered glowing reviews from TIME, USA TODAY and NPR's ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, and has rocked sets at LOLLAPALOOZA, AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, THE WINNIPEG FOLK FESTIVAL, THE IRVING PLAZA, LEGOLAND and THE SMITHSONIAN.
His efforts to promote reading led to him being the New York City Library Summer Reading Program Official Spokesman for 2010-2011, and his speaking out against bullying landed him a feature spot on the Grammy award-winning album, ALL ABOUT BULLIES...BIG AND SMALL.
After two albums on Los Angeles-based kids label HAPPINESS RECORDS, 23 Skidoo pulled off a successful Kickstarter campaign in order to record his third album and launch his own label. This May, MAKE BELIEVERS will be released as the first project on UNDERGROUND PLAYGROUND RECORDS. As a producer, 23 Skidoo drew from some of his favorite retro styles, combining golden age hip-hop with funk, soul, surf rock and even swing to give MAKE BELIEVERS a strangely timeless feel. 23 Skidoo is joined on all three albums by his wife Brooke, a.k.a. BOOTYSATTVA, and his daughter Saki, a.k.a. MC FIREWORKS.
