Broadway producer Rocco Landesman was born and raised in St. Louis, where his family owned the Crystal Palace, a Gaslight Square cabaret that featured cutting Edge Theater and performers. Landesman developed and produced the Broadway musical Big River, which won 7 Tony Awards in 1985.
He was named president of Jujamcyn Theaters in 1987, where he emphasized the development of new plays and produced significant works such as the Tony-winners Angels in America and The Producers. A larger than life figure who has owned racehorses and baseball teams as well as theaters, in 2009 Rocco Landesman was named chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The St. Louis Walk of Fame is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 to provide a showcase for the
cultural heritage of St. Louis and to advance the knowledge, awareness and
appreciation of creative St. Louisans and their achievements and contributions.
Set in the sidewalks of The Loop, it is open 24 hours a day and is free.
There are 130+ sets of stars and plaques. Great St. Louisans honored include Tennessee Williams, Chuck Berry, MiLes Davis, Ulysses S. Grant, Stan Musial, T.S. Eliot, Tina Turner, John Goodman, Bob Costas, Josephine Baker, Yogi Berra, Betty Grable, Jack Buck, Maya Angelou, Lou Brock, Shelley Winters, Charles Lindbergh, Nelly, Vincent Price, Joseph Pulitzer, Grace Bumbry, and Cedric the Entertainer.
